There are many conflicting accounts between Herndon and other biographies written about Lincoln. This is concerning Lincoln's spiritual status.. Herndon has him being an agnostic at best and perhaps an atheist. Other accounts had him a very devout man who placed his life on biblical scriptures. Which is right?Product details

Abraham Lincoln; the true story of a great life Volume 2 William Henry Herndon Jesse William Weik 9781176999336 Books Reviews
If you think you know Lincoln, you don't until you read these books. A wonderful account of his life, the good and the bad. I loved it.
A
good reading
To me it was easier to read and follow than volume one. I loved the description of the campaigns by the newspaper reporter assigned to "write up" Lincoln. Some of the chapter where the author gives his personal description of Lincoln was a bit over the top and draw out. Overall it was an interesting biography of Lincoln.
Very enjoyable book and told by an authoritative source.
Herndon's "Abraham Lincoln" is a fascinating description of multiple circumstances and events s of Lincoln's life as described by someone who actually worked with him on a daily basis, knew his family and associates. Herndon reflected about situations, issues, and activities involving his friend and law partner, Lincoln and recorded not only important elements of Lincolns political life, but describes too, Abe's home life, what his children were like and how all these surroundings help form the man. An excellent read for the Lincoln enthusiast who is looking for a very old, but nonetheless refreshing view of Abraham Lincoln.
William Herndon was Lincoln's law partner for many years, a friend and political supporter. He KNEW Lincoln personally over a long period of time. I love reading his historical writing about Lincoln, which he began shortly after the assassination. I love the immediacy, hearing the voices of people who knew Lincoln well and trusted Herndon enough to share intimate details of what they knew of Abraham Lincoln. You can tell the book is written with great care, love, and respect, additionally it has the clarity of a legal mind behind it. If you have never read these biographical works written in the late 1860's and '70s you are missing out on some of the best insights into this great man and the times in which his greatness shone. The wonder is that this book is free on ! Don't miss it.
